Here the second part of this special report about Thomas Anders in Chile 2016, thanks to Modern Talking Perú.
*******
Saturday night, December the 10th 2016, it was around
8. 30 pm and a long line was formed behind every door of the Monticello Sun
Auditorium. The assistants were getting in one by one, showing their tickets
everyone. Inside, several of them were there taking pictures and celebrating
re-encounters. Many of these people have been in touch over the years through
the internet, so meeting now at a concert was very special and endearing.
Placed in their seats, white roses were distributed among the people. There was
no previous show, just in a moment came out a moderator announcing that soon
the show was going to begin. Was not like those events where people are waiting
for the main artist several hours, there was no opening, the only one show of
the night just started almost punctually and immediately, it even caught by the
public by surprise when on the stage screen and appeared the beating logo of
Thomas Anders, which are the letters TA in white over a black background.
The show began in that way, the musicians went
to their positions and Thomas Anders came out to sing "Atlantis Is
Calling", the first track of the night and the same with which he started
his concert of the Fanday this year. Thomas wore a dark grey T-shirt with a
dark coat with a white handkerchief in his pocket and a pair of beige pants
with elegant blue sports shoes. The fans got up from their seats at the
beginning of the song and the shouts of joy filled the place. After that,
without pause, Thomas performed "Why Do You Cry", this was the song
with which he began his concert in 2014. Having the videoclip behind, Thomas provided an
impeccable performance. There were also two big vertical screens on each side
of the room.
At the end of the song, Thomas greeted
everyone, trying to speak a few words in Spanish. He explained that he did not
speak good this language, but he learned enough for talk in a restaurant for
example. "Una ensalada sin tomate y sin queso por favor ",
"señora una copa de vino blanco ... o una botella". The fans found him funny and clapped. He then
in English explained that it was very difficult for him to hold a conversation
in Spanish, but he do his best, he asked to the audience a second and let him to
concentrate. And then he said in Spanish, "Es maravilloso estar aquí."
When he said this, he received the ovation from the fans, who in answer to his
question, if the expression was correct, they all replied that YES !! ... -
"ok thanks, bye bye", - Thomas joked, satisfied with his Spanish. He
drank a little bit from a glass, to relieve a small cough and then continued
with his next song and so while on the screen public watched the expensive video
clip where he played of a kind of James Bond, Thomas interpreted his song
"Stay With Me." The live band, the live voice, was really a top-notch
show. After the song, some fans began to call his name, he just replied that
they were all very lovely and had a special song for them. It began with the
chords of "Lunatic Girl", new song released this same year 2016, in
the style of the old Modern Talking. The next song that started almost
immediately was the classic "You Can Win If You Want", some fans
started to bring him the white roses. Thomas is not really a dancer, but as a
singer on stage, he knows how to move with the music. This time he played the
Modern Talking song "China In Her Eyes". Thomas walked from side to
side over the stage, looking at the people in the first row in front of him,
while he were singing happy and receiving their flowers.
A short pause then for to talk to the public,
who took the chance to bring him more white flowers. To the stage also came a
little girl with a teddy bear, which Thomas received with affection,
"you're my youngest fan here", he said her. People began to saturate him
with more flowers and while was solved some technical problems with the micro,
the group from Argentina took the chance for give him their flag, which Thomas
took and placed next to the flowers. The fans of Peru also tried to give him
their flag, but Thomas only said that all the people of South America were very
lovely and he was very grateful. He then announced his next song from the 80's,
"Geronimo's Cadillac". The enthusiasm of fans always seemed to
interrupt Thomas's program, the audience's presents, especially the roses, distracted
him from his rehearsed speech, so Thomas ended up extending his program,
"Well it's Christmas, I'm getting a lot of gifts for this reason", He
joked. But every time he tried to say a few words, the fans called him
interrupting, "Please, please !! ... let me speak," the auditorium was
small so those who were near could talk to him easily.
Thomas now wanted to record to the public with
his Smartphone. So, after commenting about the technology advances and how fans
now used these devices in concerts, he would do the same recording to the
public, but apparently the battery was low, he promised to upload his recording
to Facebook for the next day . The effusive audience was allowed to be recorded
for the history and then the next song came, it was the cover of "Love Is
In The Air", which is his last new single. The fans one by one continued
giving white flowers and at the end of the song, Thomas said how fascinating it
was for him, that so many people were singing the song with him.
Then came the unplugged moment, the guitarist
Lars and Thomas would do an acoustic session that started with the song
"This Time", a beautiful ballad of Thomas Anders' first solo album,
released after the second break of Modern Talking. At the end of this song,
Thomas started to talk few words about the world peace, but apparently there
was a problem with Lars guitar, who had to leave to fix it, a moment. Thomas
then improvised a few more words. Solved this little problem, Lars came back to
sit next to Thomas and played the "Give Me Peace On Earth", the audience
also sang along with him making a nice natural choir that made the moment
special. The public clapped and immediately after, Thomas continued with his
ballad version of "You're My Heart You're My Soul", which ended with
his specially customized ending of always, depending on each country and region
he visit.
Until then the program was the same one of the
performed in the International Fanday, but here came the variation specially
for his concerts tour. Again with the uptempo music, and he opened this section
with "You're Not Alone". Again every fan wanted to give him a white
rose, Thomas kept his hands full because of this, the drummer and guitarist
gave a heavy metal tone to the song, but it did not matter, people enjoyed
filling Thomas with roses. At the end of the song, Thomas commented about how
the technology had changed certain habits we had in past, and that at this time
many people even no longer write by hand, he asked for a sincere answer, when was
the last time they made a hand written letter, but a fan replied that he had done
it last week, a letter to Santa Claus, this seemed to surprise him and he made
a sarcastic joke, "dear you are so far away." This preamble was only to
present his next song, which was "In 100 Years".
Very kind Thomas got close to his fans who
continued bringing him white roses. After a short pause, he drank a little bit
from a glass that was ready for him on the stage and received one more rose, so
he commented, "How many roses are here? ... there are more roses than
people!." But in this moment no one knows how a fan came up to the stage,
to hug Thomas, she hugged him for some seconds until the security take her
away, it seemed that the anecdote already passed, the bodyguards became more alert,
but the same fan came back to touch the hand of Thomas Anders once more, she was
first applauded for dare to do that, but then was almost booed by her
insistence, but she was very happy and Thomas also seemed happy making some
jokes and saying to the public,” I know that you are very happy”. The next song
came with funk, it was "Juliet", Thomas danced with enthusiasm, while
more and more roses were given to him, he held them for few seconds and then
placed them next to the stage, which was almost filled with them, after the song,
he received even more.
But it was time to introduce the musicians, few
artists of this genre have a live band, Thomas Anders is one of them, so he let to play a solo to each one starting with
the bassist Jörg Picone . Then was the turn of the guitarist Lars, but while
Thomas was going to introduce him, some screams were heard which made Thomas
jealous, he said joking, "What does this mean?" Thomas recognized
that his guitarist was so popular that he had his own Fanclub, he asked him if
he was nervous and after a moment he let him play. The next to be performed was
the keyboardist Wolfgang Cornet, who replaced Bernd Höfer, and finally the drummer
Nick Scharfschwerdt, who by showing the power of his drums almost literally
destroyed the cymbals. At the end of this performing of the Modern Talking band,
the chords of "Win The Race" sounded, which encouraged to stand up to
the whole public.
Walking from side to side, he received more
white flowers from the fans, and after this song he made a little pause to
comment about the weather in Santiago de Chile, the rainy day of his arrival
and the anecdote that the first thing his wife asked him, was, how was the
weather in Santiago?, but Thomas also mentioned that he was confident that by the
next day the weather would be better and so it was. Thomas said he enjoy the
summer and the next song he announced was a summer song. "No Face No Name
No Number". After this followed "Sexy Sexy Lover" and then
"Brother Louie", Thomas could not hide the funny that was for him to hear
the echo voices that fans made during the chorus of Brother Louie. The fans
danced happily, but then the song ended and Thomas left the stage along with
the musicians.
Still was waited the bis part of the concert,
so the fans began to call Thomas to return, Ole Ole Ole Ole Thomas Thomas !!,
was heard throughout the room. After a few minutes, the musicians returned to
their posts starting To play melodiously the "You're My Heart You're My
Soul" in piano sound, for then to play it in Eurodisco version. Thomas
Anders returned to the stage to sing and all fans shouted loudly, they all sang
the more known song of Modern Talking, but this was a special version that
included a small sample of the " Billie Jean" of Michael Jackson. At
the end of the song Thomas left the stage a brief moment only for return then singing
"Cheri Cheri Lady".
The show was near to the end and Thomas was
still getting more white roses. Jumping everywhere, Thomas improvised dance
steps and the audience was very excited; After a moment, he placed the
microphone in his monopod and thanked everybody, he took a last bouquet of
flowers and waved off the stage with a kiss.
The show was over. The musicians then also got
up in order to make their farewell, they began to give away their stuff among
the public. In fact they did not leave the stage and stayed with the fans until
the last minute. The one who was surrounded with more fans was Lars, who took a
picture with each person who asked for it and also received the white roses.
The security people of the venue wanted to clear the area, but it was difficult
with so many fans wanting to take pictures with the musicians. Finally they
were all evicted from the place.
