It was Friday early morning of an uncommon
rainy day, the fans of Modern Talking were arriving one by one during the
previous hours, all age fans and from all South America countries that arrived at the
International Airport of Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez of Chile, only for be
part of this event. The singer Thomas Anders after his historic concert in
November of 2014 was coming back. Expectations were very big, most of the
people were from Chile, but there was also a very big group from Argentina.
Everybody knew that first were coming the musicians and although Thomas was not
coming with them. Those musicians were enough popular by their own, so they
also had to feel the warm welcome and fans would give them that for sure. In
this way, all were reunited in the exit gates area of international arrives and
started to sing Modern Talking songs while they were waiting.
Paraphernalia of fans was very present, huts,
t-shirts, jackets, records and big posters were carried by them.
Many fans also were waiting with small bouquets of flowers. Each one had a whole story to tell about the
reason that motivated them to be there, between them for example, were the
unconditional group of girls who in
2014, arrived early to the airport in order to welcome Thomas, but just in the
moment they decided to go to the toilet, Thomas walked through the exit gates
and they lost the moment, so this time they were almost the first to arrive, decided
that the same do not happen them again; An Argentine fan also commented, the
words of her ill mother, she said him: "You must go to see those
Talking", a touching wish from this old woman that wanted his son do first
what he liked, instead of staying there to take care for her; Was also there the
kid that during the concert of 2014 was all time near to the stage with a big
poster where was written: “My name is Thomas”, actually his name is Thomas Dieter because his father, who
was also another fan waiting there, baptized
him in this way in homage to Modern Talking.
People who arrived and walked for this area,
were watching intrigued and commenting, “This artist is really popular. All his
fanclub is waiting here”. In fact, Thomas Anders is popular in Chile, due to
his performing in Viña del Mar at the end of 80’s, he was even called “The
german with the latin heart” in those years and also was part of scandals when
his wife of that time made topples which were not allowed by the conservative
Chilean society. But that was many years ago
already and his comeback on 2014 after almost 25 years, originated an immense
joy and expectation in all South America fans with a spectacular concert in the
Movistar Arena of Santiago de Chile. This year the expectation was similar, all latin fans had the chance for go to this concert without travel to
Europe, that is the reason fans from Argentina, Perú, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil and
probably other countries came for that.
Some people in the airport that were
not fans were moved by the enthusiasm of those followers and they also ended
singing the same songs that all of them.
After some minutes, around 11 o’clock of
morning, the musicians were coming. About thirty fans surrounded them trying to
get everyone a picture. So in this way one by one were leaving the exit, the drummer
Nick, the keyboard player Wolfgang, the bassist Jorg and the more popular
between them, the guitarist Lars Ilmer, they simply accepted every greeting,
and every picture that fans requested, but after some minutes, the promoter team
took them to another place.
The group of fans was dispersed, everybody went
to take a rest, to check their pictures or drink a coffee while they were
waiting to the main star. Thomas Anders had to arrive in a couple of hours
more. Time passed very fast and outside of the airport the drizzle continued. Soon
everybody was alerted, the singer would not come throught the main door, but for
one special, without access to public. The only thing they could do was to go
the more near they could. So all fans walked to this place and covered the grills, waiting even in the same car tracks. Flags of Argentina and Peru were extended,
but the waiting become long and rain didn’t stop.
Nobody knew if they would have a chance to see
Thomas Anders. They only wanted to welcome him, give him flowers and make him
know how much he was waited. During this time, a motivated group of
fans from Argentina were singing and dancing full of enthusiasm without care to
do it under the unstoppable drizzle, that continued there refreshing the mood of this people.

Were
long minutes that fans spent talking between them and setting their cameras
in order to get them ready for the big moment. Nobody was sure if was the right place, but everybody
was congregated in this little area. Then security officers of the airport asked
them to leave from the road and suddenly the fans that were near, warned to the rest that
Thomas was leaving soon.
Was already about 1.00 o’clock and finally
Thomas was coming to the exit. He was inside a van with black windows, that he
boarded almost hidden. Fans walked close with the hope that he could open
the window for say a hello, but as soon as the barrier was lifted, the car left and never stopped, letting all fans disappointed, many of them even were
not able to see anything. In vain some of them tried to run behind the car. The
next car to leave was the one of the promoter's team, that was received with complains, angry
fans even threated they would ask their money back, it was a big snub and
the rain everytime fell stronger.
There was nothing else to do, everyone took
their way and the big group congregated there, disappeared in seconds. Some
white roses were left over the road in the middle of a puddle that was formed by
the intense rain, the stronger that fell in Santiago over about 20 years.
